Orba
Font Design, Typography Design
Orba began with a vision: a clear, rational, and confident typeface built for high legibility. As a geometric grotesque typeface, it prioritizes function over ornament, supporting five to seven minute reading and reflecting a design approach grounded in clarity, intention, and readability across sizes and lengths.
Good Design in Type Form
This specimen newspaper demonstrates Orba in use, showcasing its clarity and flexibility across sizes, formats, and messages. Guided by Dieter Rams’ principles of good design, Orba was approached as a product—prioritizing readability, confidence, and serves its purpose without distraction.
From Specimen to Statement
Building on the specimen newspaper, I extended Orba into a series of promotional posters designed to champion the typeface. Rather than decorative advertising, these posters function as direct communication allowing Orba’s voice to speak for itself.
Refining the Typeface
I intentionally documented each week’s progress to record the process and develop a designer’s eye for spotting any oddities or distractions in this rational typeface.
